Caps Gaming top Scary Hours to capture IGT Open title
Caps Gaming secures their first title under the organization, and first for the roster since 2021
The opening tournament of the NHL 24 season was an exciting one, with two familiar teams returning to the final dance after a slump of performances. In the end, it was Caps Gaming who took down Scary Hours in the best of 5 finals of the IGT Open, securing the grand prize of $2000.
This victory marked a significant milestone for the team, marking their first title under the Caps Gaming banner. Despite showcasing immense potential in previous tournaments, they had narrowly missed out on clinching the top spot. Their journey to success was capped by a 15 game winning streak in the regular season, before only dropping 3 games in their playoff run en route to their victory. The majority of the roster came from Prodigy, who racked up 2 titles in the 2021 season, but has fallen short since joining the Caps Gaming brand. The team has come close to the top, finishing in the semi finals of their past 2 events, but have not finished the job before their most recent victory.

It was also Scary Hours’ event for retribution, as their finals appearance is their first since NACL in early 2023. Scary Hours’ made large changes to their roster, replacing Arctic Blur and Sitful at wing for BoilyHP and Kushnee. The large question heading into the event was whether the changes would prove beneficial to the team, and has paid off in spades for the team. They’ll look to build off their success in future events with their new squad.
SJSharks Gaming recently signed the Legacy roster for the 2024 season, and their opening event was certainly a success, finishing top 4 in their first event with the organization. The roster has made significant progress in 2023, with consistent solid finishes peaking as high as top 4 in Caps Gaming Showcase Season 4.
With teams like IslesGT and Entourage dominating the 2023 season, elite teams stepping up and becoming title contenders has opened up the door for a wide open race for titles in upcoming events.
