Team Rankings April 2024: Underdogs Clinch First Title, One Nation Enters New Territory
With Caps Gaming Season 5 finished, here's how the rankings look!
Wrapping up Caps Gaming Showcase Season 5, we are now able to see how teams stack up in the latest edition of the team rankings! There was a ton of roster shuffling before this event, and for some teams it paid off handsomely, while others struggled out of the gate. We’ll go over some of the storylines in this post, and see who stepped up in the last event!
If you've never seen our team's ranking before, here's how it works:
Our team ranking is based on teams' achievements over the past year with point totals decaying as time goes on. Players are given point based on their team's performances, which will carry over throughout their history. As the current competitive climate does not allow it, we do not implement a "core roster" requirement, or a strictly team point total. Due to the decay in point values over time, more recent events will carry more weight to each rankings update.
As of April 2nd, here is the top 20 team rankings:
Underdogs get their first Title
The Underdogs brand has seen its fair share of events and high placements in them. But they finally stepped over the line with their first win under the yellow and blue, taking home the Caps Gaming Showcase Season 5 trophy. After their second place finish in the Pacific Cup, the potential for the team was clearly there for them to go further. The addition of Dumoulin at right defense and ScaryJoeyy at Centre added players with plenty of skill and experience to take them over the edge. They looked like the best team at each stage of the tournament, and are finally rewarded for their efforts.
One Nation steps up
For the core of this roster, its been a long time coming for some fruits of their labors. A roster full of skill and potential, but always were on the outside of the elite. After some great performances under Red Lite, the core made it to their first finals as a group. The team look poised to be a top contender, and their chemistry after playing together for so long was on full display this event. No matter how far this core splits, they always return with a bang, and look like they found the sweet spot for a roster.
Who Takes the Next Step
After One Nation got their first taste of finals glory as a team, we now look at the teams just under the elite who look to make their mark this season and beyond. After SJSharks Gaming put up another top 4 performance, there is a clear line in the sand between the upper echelon and the rest vying for titles.
Scary Hours has gone through a mini rebuild, but still look closest to the group ahead as they will hope to bounce back next event. Teams such as Never Unlucky, BBB, and Unknown Talent all have top 8 finishes as a core, but are looking for the missing piece to take them over the edge as top dogs in the scene. Perhaps it could be a wildcard not listed, as with so much roster tweaking below these groups, the right combination could prove to be the formula to add another team to the mix. With the top of the table looking more and more solid, teams below them will look to catch up before the season ends.
